International Sex Trafficking
Women all over the world are being forced and lured into sex slavery. They are abducted and physically prevented from returning home. These women are stripped of their possessions, money, and passports. Due to the unfamiliarity with the foreign customs and language, they are unable to ask for help.
Recent Occurrences of International Trafficking
- In 1998, there was a raid of brothels in Mexico where Mexican girls, some as young as 13 were used as sex slaves.
- In 2011, a "baby factory" was discovered in Bangkok, Thailand. Dozens of Vietnamese girls were raped and impregnated, and then their babies were sold.
- Also in 2011, Ebay shut down sales after discovering that three young Vietnamese women were being auctioned off on the site.
- Bars around the globe have been known to parade young girls around at auction blocks. They are naked except for their price tags. The audience of potential buyers consists mainly of South Korean, Taiwanese, and Chinese men.

- According to the Roberta Buffett Center for International and Comparative Studies, a young girl in Vietnam can be bought for as little as $400.
- According to the United Nations, slave traders can make 5-20 times as much money from a woman as he paid for her.
- Only 1 person is convicted for every 800 trafficked.
Countries That Failed to Discourage TraffickingIn 2000, the Bush administration passed a law requiring a yearly assessment of countries' anti-trafficking efforts. The countries listed below all failed to meet minimal legal standards in discouraging trafficking.
