Sex Trafficking Among Adults
It is estimated that there are 27 million sex slaves in the world, over 1/2 of those are over the age of 18, and the majority are between the ages of 18-24.
Human traffickers are increasingly trafficking adult pregnant women for their newborns.
Adult Women are trafficked here in the U.S. to work in the sex industry (such as strip clubs, peep shows, massage and sexual services, and prostitution). They are also trafficked to work in sweatshops, domestic servitude, and agricultural work.
What services does the U.S. offer to Adults rescued from Sex Slavery?
•Currently, there is only one shelter in the U.S. designed for the needs of trafficking victims. Right now it only houses a total of seven to nine victims. •The TVPA also created the T visa, a non-immigrant status that allows a foreign victim of human trafficking to remain in the United States for up to four years.
